Invictus

I have never been one for poems. But this one moved me. It gives me strength.

Invictus
- William Ernest Henley
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

New Year's Eve

I don't know if its just me, but New Year's Eve is the most depressing day of the year. It reminds me of all the unfulfilled promises, the disappointments and the bad decisions made throughout the year, bringing me to the position I am at the end of it. Of how it could all have worked out differently and for the better. Or so I'd like to believe.

I also feel that deep down a lot of people feel the same way. And they try to drown it all in a frenzy of drinking and dancing.
